TMC Iloilo inaugurates Sacristy

As part of its commitment of bringing “patient partnership” to the Ilonggo community, The Medical City (TMC) Iloilo has inaugurated its Sacristy on August 16.

Located at the 6th floor of the said hospital, Sacristy was materialized through the kindness of Dr. Douglas Budok who donated the said chapel to the hospital and has also been supportive to TMC Iloilo towards achieving its mission of “patient partnership”.

(From left to right) TMC Iloilo Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eugene Ramos, patient partner Wilfredo Napatang, Sacristy donor Dr. Douglas Budok and TMC Iloilo Chief Medical Officer Dr. Felix Ray Villa lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Sacristy was built to give patient partners a place where they can have quiet time for reflection with the aim or bringing holistic health.

“When you look at health, it doesn’t only mean physical, it also needs to be spiritual and emotional because if we do not have that kind of attitude, we will not completely get better,” TMC Iloilo Chief Executive Officer Eugene Ramos noted.

“As physicians, our role is to cure sometimes, to provide relief most of the time, but always to provide comfort all the time. We need to have the time for reflection because that is the only way we can discover our strengths”, he added.

La Musica Embajadores set the mood at the Sacristy with their solemn repertoire.

On his part, Sacristy donor Dr. Douglas Budok said that the chapel is a sanctuary where patient partners and their loved ones can have peace of mind, serenity, clarity and acceptance.

Conceptualized by Dr. Budok himself, Sacristy’s interiors are adorned with wood carving designs of a tree which represent life and eternity.

The event was highlighted by a turn over ceremony of Sacristy from Dr. Budok to TMC Iloilo and a holy mass officiated by Fr. Ramon Fruto and Fr. Domingo Alimajen.

Online Dating and all it's perks

Is social networking sites really making friends out of strangers or strangers out of friends?

I have been thinking deep about what social sites are made for considering that I get cursed and bullied within my own account. For the past few days I have been taking notes with the advantages of social sites, some of the facts I have gathered are the following:

§ You allow a perfect stranger to completely evaluate your character by reading your wall posts.
§ Social sites are commonly used to asses a person even in a professional setting since it can easily be accessed through the internet and it pops first in search engines.
§ Social sites make people more interested in getting hooked to the  internet.
§ People no longer send a simple text message on your birthday but places their greeting on your wall because the sites never fail to provide them with reminders of your special day. This bring you both closer and close together. you and social networking
§ Most relationships, and not just romantic relationships, gets more complicated and sometimes come to an end because of the unreasonable battle over password issues and wall post jealousies.

Other times, I use it as a platform to meet new people and experience the digital world.

I cant help but notice how social networking has evolved over a couple of years. But its really alarming that my brother no longer play the local games I have come to love when I was a kid because he exaggeratedly prefer online dating and console gaming that is available in most social sites rather than physically engaging to it. What is even more alarming are getting some of my own personal friends become social addicts that they forget the main objective why social sites are created.  I can even be more alarmed that seeing how people forget their values and post unethical phrases just to get a minute of attention not even taking considerations how their values are deteriorate a notch lower and making them look like low grade bacteria found in animal manure.

I, myself has an account from one of the most famous social networking site available but that is to only keep up with the progressive demand of my peers.  For the record, social sites are made as a subject of your motive. So lets all be careful and remember what principles and ethics our parents and teachers have taught us. Lets be more educated and keen so that these tools created and developed by technology and innovation can be a door for another dimension of learning and understanding. Remember, your teachers as well as your family members and relatives are part of your friends in your profile.

So lets all be an example and create a safe and secure environment for our loved ones.

Globe Telecom takes it upon itself to ensure that the society as a whole remains safe from numerous threats facing everyone using the  internet. This concern gave birth to the #makeITsafePH campaign under its CyberPinoy cyber wellness program. The campaign covers all stakeholders such as big corporations, small and medium-scale enterprises,  government agencies, colleges and universities, and the general public.

Globe, Facebook, DepEd collaborate to promote responsible digital citizenship in schools nationwide

Globe Telecom, Facebook and Department of Education launched a partnership to promote responsible digital citizenship in the country. Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu (center) led the program launch. Cu is joined by from left, Globe Senior Vice President Nikko Acosta, DQ representative Galvin Ngo, Facebook Head of Community Affairs in Asia Pacific Clair Deevy and DepEd Undersecretary Tonisito Umali.

Globe Telecom, Facebook and the Department of Education (DepEd) again joined hands to continue promoting responsible digital citizenship among teachers and students in public and private schools across the country under the “Digital Thumbprint Program” or DTP.

As of end 2017, there are now more than 60 million internet users in the country, 52.2 million of which—or roughly 50% of the country’s population—are mobile internet users who spend about 3.36 hours using the internet daily. Data from a Philippine National Police (PNP) report also bared that half of internet users are adolescents aged 17 years old and below.

Related to this, the DQ Institute, an international think-tank formed in association with the World Economic Forum, revealed in its inaugural 2018 DQ Global Impact Report that 56 percent of kids 8 to 12 years old worldwide who go online are exposed to a variety of cyber risks. Referring to a study of the Philippine internet situation, the same report said 73 percent of children in the same age bracket are exposed to cyber risks, the second highest in a study among 29 countries.

The report cited exposure to cyberbullying, video game addiction, online grooming, online sexual behavior, and digital misinformation are as prevailing cyber risks in the Philippines. As online usage increases in the country, so does the level of risks for users whenever they are online, which calls for more protection by advocating responsible digital citizenship, including critical thinking when online, plus protection against piracy and abuse.

Given this, Globe Telecom and Facebook, in collaboration with DepEd, launched a workshop entitled “Digital Discernment.” The workshop contains topics that teach online users how to think critically online, and effectively identify credible information from questionable information.  Content includes practical tips on how to verify and examine online sources of on and  identify facts from opinions.

Cebu Landmasters ends 2017 with record P4.58-B reservation sales, plans 20 new developments in 2018

Homegrown property developer Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) finished the year 2017 with P4.58 billion in total reservation sales, exceeding its target by 13.75 percent and beating the 2016 result by 55.6 percent.
CLI attributed its exceptional performance mainly to newly launched residential projects: 38 Park Avenue (Cebu IT Park) with 745 units, Casa Mira South (Cebu) with 3,200 units, Mivesa Garden Residences (Cebu) with 1,514 units, Mesaverte (Cagayan de Oro) with 798 units, and the 694-unit MesaTierra (Davao City). These projects are now almost fully sold.

The listed company said its sales performance is resounding affirmation that its products respond to the needs of the market and are distributed strategically to the areas where demand is strongest.
“All the projects we launched were well-received by their respective markets making 2017 another banner year,” said CLI chief executive officer Jose Soberano III referring to the firm’s efforts to penetrate new markets such as Davao and Dumaguete and to diversify its products.

The past year saw CLI aggressively venturing into the hospitality industry to increase its inventory to a total of 610 rooms in four years. All CLI hotel projects are located within company-developed mixed-use communities. The 180-room “lyf Cebu City” by Ascott targeting millennial travelers and the 250-room Citadines Riverside Davao were launched in late 2017. They will complement Citadines Cebu City set for completion in 2018.  More hotel projects are expected to break ground in 2018.

Cebu Landmasters is confident it will gain even greater momentum this year. The company has targeted reservations sales to hit P7 billion this2018, a massive 52-percent hike from the previous year, as it starts more projects and expands to more territories in Visayas-Mindanao growth centers.
The array of new developments planned for the year include 10 in Cebu (two residential subdivisions, three residential condominiums, three offices, one hotel and one industrial park). Details of these projects will be revealed in the coming months.

CLI has also set its sights on two new territories in the Visayas. Bacolod will play host to two residential condominiums and a hotel, while a residential condo is planned for neighboring Iloilo. Reports from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) show that the Visayas region will zoom ahead of other regions in the next five years and is expected to outpace the projected 7 to 8 percent growth for the Philippines.
The listed property developer also plans to fortify its foothold in Mindanao where it will launch two residential subdivisions and one residential condominium in Cagayan de Oro while a central business district and two residential condominiums will be unveiled in Davao. NEDA reports that in terms of economic growth, Davao ranks third among 18 regions in the country.

The upcoming projects boost CLI’s total number of projects to 66 from 46 last year, as it continues to strengthen its brand in its niche markets. The company’s residential condominiums are mostly designed for the mid-market segment, although it also offers condos for the high-end market.
“In 2018, we will continue to expand our footprint in the Visayas and Mindanao, and develop projects that respond to the growing market in these areas,” said Soberano who is confident CLI will meet its performance targets set for the year and beyond.

It expects that hikes in household income resulting from the newly approved package 1 of the Duterte government’s Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) will be channeled to housing.
Studies (TUCP, 2010) have also shown that around 2 to 2.1 percent of OFW remittances are channeled to housing. Total remittances in 2017 were seen to hit US$33 billion (World Bank, 2017). This means that at least US$693 million or about P35 billion would be used for shelter requirements.

CLI also expects that government spending in infrastructure will unlock land values outside Metro Manila and stimulate business in the countryside as the Duterte administration pushes for investments outside of the country’s capital.
